• I got this book for a quick, fun read, but it was not fun. Every character in this book is stupid and shallow. Tension and conflict are falsely created by the characters' stupidity and shallowness. Random things happen that are supposed to be humorous but defy the imagination. (How do you bite down on a stranger's sandwich just because the crowded Tube lurched? More likely to just smush your face in it.) And the writing lacks wit or style. I almost threw the book away just to not hear the narrator say, FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME, "full disclosure."
• I love Kinsella's books in general. They're a great way to escape from all the bad news of the world. Of late, it feels as though her books are taking on new depth. The characters are not as they appear, and rather than taking an easy road with clear-cut heroes and villains, the characters in this book have more subtle shading.
  
  It's tough to say much about the story without revealing spoilers. Let me just say that it went off in a surprising direction, and one I found fresh and pleasing. Kinsella could have taken an easier road, but she didn't.
  
  Cat/Katie, the protagonist of the book, comes across as more competent than some of Kinsella's previous heroines. She's smart and ambitious as she tries to put aside her "farmer Katie" upbringing. She's not without flaws, but she's very likable, but I enjoyed her as the smart girl who's looking to make her mark in the world. Demeter is the brilliant but sometimes flaky boss who seems to have a perfect life.
  
  As a stepmom, I thank Kinsella for having a stepmom character who is loving and important in Cat's life. At times I have feel like I'm battling a stereotype as people make assumptions about the role of a stepparent, so appreciate Biddy's sweet, smart, loving presence.
  
  And, as someone who has experienced some of what Demeter does in this story (man, I wish I could think of a way to say this without spoiling it!!), I thank Kinsella for dealing with a workplace issue seldom discussed or acknowledged by women. I've SO been there.
• I have now fell in love with this author. In fact, after I am done writing this review, I am off to to purchase another of her novels! The sincerity and rawness of this novel leaves nothing to be desired. Great read!
• Ok, first off, i don’t leave many reviews, because so few books really hook me nowadays. I’ve felt lackluster for ages, and really let down, about the majority of them - characters felt unreal, story didn’t flow the way i wanted, heroine was pathetic/hero overly divine. The way they go all lusty at each other, yet pretend they don’t like each other. I am just so over all of that.
  
  However i have always been fond of Ms Kinsella’s books. I got this one because it had 4 and a half stars, and sounded intriguing. And believe me - it is. I don’t want to do spoilers or anything. But i felt the characters were believable, the story had a good ending, And it’s a good solid piece of chick lit. Which i really like. It’s lost me some sleep, because i really wanted to know what came next, and I couldn’t put it down.
  
  And i got this book, because i just abandoned my last one in a bad temper. (Because the girl in it, just could not help herself kissing the hero, even though she doesn’t like him, and he kept pushing her away. God! I feel like it’s just page fillers. You know they’ll end up together at the end anyway)
  
  So, if you like Sophie, this is a good one
• The reason I gave this book three stars is because for most of the book the main character was a bit intolerable I mean talk about low self-esteem and I just couldn't relate to her at all at first it wasn't until very nearly the end of the book when she finally decides that she's worth it that I could start to like her at all but by then so much had already happened that her redemption felt like a fairy tale and I was back to not liking her. I recommend this book for anyone who likes light reading with a happy ending this isn't the kind of book that makes you think too hard.
• I always like Sophie Kinsella, but this book just felt off. As others have said, it went on too long and became a slog to get through, and Katie's attempts at retribution felt immature and contrived. It really felt like 2 books mashed into one, the usual Kinsella chick lit enjoyable fluff, and then a second book that was more sober and tried to preach a bit and give moral instruction. And you can even give moral instruction in a light, funny way - but this book didn't do that. I also listened to it as an Audible book and the narrator was really good; in fact saved the book more than a bit in that format. But still - for me it was a disappointment.

• In a world where the intellectual class nearly uniformly despises Donald Trump, the celebrated historian Victor Davis Hanson has arrived to offer a clear-eyed evaluation of how Trump became President, and what that may mean for the immediate future. This is not a propagandistic defense of Trump, but an analysis of his campaign and his Presidency so far, viewed from atop the shifting sands of America’s political landscape. I doubt if this book will make Hanson popular with liberals. Nor will it make him popular with the #NeverTrumpers, but I’m also pretty sure he’s left them behind already, for the same reasons that voters left them behind—all of which Hanson outlines in this book.
  
  The first part of the book covers the split of America into the coastal elites, who have the power and the money, and the despised denizens of flyover country, who have neither power nor money. This is fairly well-trodden ground, most recently (with variations) by Tucker Carlson in "Ship of Fools." Trump’s candidacy was initially treated as a joke (I literally laughed when I heard it, myself), but the elites put up the very worst candidate possible, both in the abstract and for the immediate purpose, and Trump showed the deplorables he was willing and able to fight for them (whether that has come to pass is irrelevant for the question of his election, of course). None of this analysis is all that original, but it is well-written and interesting.
  
  The second part of the book covers the reaction to Trump of the existing structures of governmental power, who (no surprise) are closely tied to the coastal elites—what Hanson cleverly calls the ancien régime. Trump, like everyone else, had no idea of the lengths to which this group, the Deep State, would go to reverse the results of the election, a process through which we are still living. Justice is, of course, irrelevant—the goal is to get Trump, however they can. So far, they’ve come up empty, and Trump is laughing at them, as at his two-hour speech last week at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
  
  The question, of course, is who will have the last laugh. I’m putting my money on Trump, because I suspect that his enemies have already shot their bolt, and their reach has exceeded their grasp. Absent some economic disaster, Trump is going to be re-elected, and keep remaking the country to some extent. True, that’s not a great enough extent, but it’s a lot more than any other Republican would have done. So far, he’s been a huge success, by any objective measure, if not everything I wanted, or that those who elected him wanted. He just needs to stay the course, and, fortunately, there is every indication that is exactly what he is going to do.
• VDH is an erudite and calm objective historian and narrator of times past and current. History is not what anyone wishes that would have happened. History is what happened, and happens, like it or not. Too many of our claimed "historians" are propagandists, not historians. VDH is a historian of wars and culture, of life and of people.
  
  "Ancien régime", aka, our current Ship of Tools, or, your arrogant 'superior' 'intelligentsia', or, they have learned nothing at all since 2016 and consider you all to be ignorant naive hicks. You sustain their high perches. You have the power to poke holes into their nests, while they sit high up and snicker at you, but they are so few.
  
  Deplorables, you are the many and you have the power to vote against them. Exercise all your rights. You are free and powerful. They are just a handful of bitter losing fools. They have and want to destroy the Middle Class of the USA, which is a travesty for the country and the world.
  
  Les Deplorablesâ„¢, a most wonderful insult transitioned into a gift, from Hillary Clinton, you did it once, you will do it again, for the USA and for all the free people of the world, but especially for all who aim to be free. They watch you the most and they hope.
  
  Read V. D. Hanson, but also read everyone who opposes him, to determine the difference on your own, most especially how that affects your very own life and that of your family, your loved ones, your milieu.

• This is fantastic insight from a brilliant man. If I had my choice of dream dinner guests #1 would be Mark Steyn and #2 would be Dr. Hanson. VDH is a gift from God and I will cherish his written words till my dying day. Also, the opposition to Trump is extremely misguided and false and the facts laid out in this book prove it. If you care about facts above feelings please read this book.
• Dr. Hanson is a great writer, serious and informative. This is the most neutral book about Trump I've read. Facts are the most important things.
• Hanson is a brilliant observer who writes with the long view of politics and government of a classical historian to put the Trump Revolution into perspective. He explains how it happened and what it means, Get the book and share it with everyone that you know.
  I’ve read all of Hanson’s work and they do not disappoint -he wrote a book (Mexiformia) years before anyone else noticed we didn’t have as much as a fence along much of our border.
• This belongs in the fiction/fantasy category. It certainly isn't a true account of factual information. Lies.
• Hilarious! Really top-notch "reporting." If we weren't actually living this nightmare of the president who lost the popular vote by a landslide this would be great satire. Unfortunately, we are left with the decline and fall of American civilization. Woefully one sided and fast and loose with the facts-just like it's subject.

• The LOCHMORE LEGACY is an interesting series of four books which take place in different eras, but involve the same mystery. Rather uniquely, the stories start in the Victorian era, and each book goes backward in time, and reveals another piece of the puzzle. In book one, Flora McCrieff discovers a shocking secret in her family home. It’s something she can’t ask anyone about, as she was somewhere she was forbidden to be. Her marriage home leads to another discovery that appears related. While the mystery will wind through all four books, be assured that Flora and Lachlan will achieve their happy ever after in HIS CONVENIENT HIGHLAND WEDDING.
  
  Flora McCrieff caused shame for her family, as well as her own social ruin when she refused to marry a duke, and publicly called him out for being the lecher he is. Flora’s father was counting on the money the marriage would generate for his sadly depleted estate, and is furious with Flora. Now, several months later, he has secretly arranged a marriage for Flora and a wealthy businessman, Lachlan McNeill. He withholds the information from Flora until a mere three days before the wedding, and doesn’t even allow the couple to meet until they face each other at the altar.
  
  Lachlan is not an aristocrat. His family was so poor that he was arrested while attempting to steal a loaf of bread to feed them. That theft resulted in fifteen year old Lachlan being transported to Australia for seven years. He did have some luck after he served his time. His hard work caught the notice of a man who was willing to take Lachlan on as a partner, then left him his property after his death. Lachlan continued to build up his wealth with the intention of coming back to Scotland a rich man and supporting his family. He comes back only to find that his mother and siblings have died, all except his sister, Anna, who is nowhere to be found. While he continues to search for Anna, he needs help in getting his latest venture off the ground. He’s created a new blend of whisky, but he needs buyers. An aristocratic bride will have the contacts he needs, and Flora, as the daughter of an earl, seems a perfect choice.
  
  Since Lachlan was not permitted to meet Flora before the wedding, he half expected her to have some major flaw, some reason that her father would marry her off to a commoner. He’s pleasantly surprised to find her very beautiful and soft spoken. Flora is so used to being browbeaten down by her father, that she’s very timid around her new husband, walking on eggshells, expecting that Lachlan will be the same type of man. As they travel to their new home, Flora is shocked to see that he now owns Lochmore Castle, which is the former home of her family’s enemy of many generations, the Lochmores.
  
  The newlywed couple does have a wedding night, but it’s less than stellar, due to Flora’s nervousness and her mother’s erroneous advice ringing in her head. Realizing that Flora wasn’t satisfied, Lachlan can’t leave fast enough, depriving Flora of any comfort from just being held. This sets the tone for their marriage. Lachlan now feels inadequate while Flora feels undesirable, because he chooses to stay away from her bed. During the day, he is so busy with his companies and interests, that he rarely has time for Flora, though he is open and willing to listen to her suggestions and ideas, something her father never did.
  
  Despite the fact that they have no intimate life, and are both riddled with doubts and insecurities, Flora and Lachlan begin to have a genuine respect and caring for each other. When they finally reveal their secrets, their reactions are sensitive, and warmly understanding. I love how Lachlan doesn’t blame Flora for refusing the duke’s proposal, even though her somewhat tattered reputation doesn’t give him the connections he originally sought by marrying her. Flora’s reaction at learning that Lachlan has a history as a prisoner is compassionate, and doesn’t lessen him at all in her eyes.
  
  The slowly developing love and attraction between Flora and Lachlan makes for wonderful reading. While outwardly strong and dynamic, Lachlan is suffering and feeling guilt over his family, as well as feeling unworthy of his wife. Flora’s family had always made her feel worthless, except for what value she could bring them through marriage. Lachlan and Flora are amazing people, who have a lot to offer each other and to the world. HIS CONVENIENT HIGHLAND WEDDING brings two wounded souls together, allowing them to heal, to make the world a better place, and to find genuine love with each other. I love this well written, warm, and romantic story, and look forward to the upcoming books in the LOCHMORE LEGACY.

• Lady Flora McCrieff's life had not been easy because of her tyrannical father, the Earl of Aberwyld. After she refused a duke's marriage proposal a year before, Flora's relationship with her father deteriorated further. Flora didn't know how precarious the family finances were when she was told she had to marry a wealthy businessman, Lachlan McNeill. Lachlan wants to grow his whisky business, and to do so, he needs a well-connected wife, and Lady Flora is just that. As long as she asks no questions about his past...
  
  Oh my goodness, what an emotional read this is! I think I experienced every moment of Flora's loneliness, her sadness, and her discouragement at her predicament. Lachlan is a decent man, but he is just not present. he doesn't know how to act with her, what to say. He feels undeserving of such a lovely woman; he doesn't want to scare her away, so he avoids her, leaving her even more distraught. Janice Preston has created a remarkable gothic atmosphere, suited to Flora's every state of mind. Her attempts to get closer to her husband are in vain; he is always occupied, and he has secret business to attend to. Flora tries and tries, but nothing seems to work. From disillusioned, she grows angry, resentful, until an opportunity presents itself, and hopes she might have glimpsed the light at the end of the tunnel.
  
  Ms. Preston's extensive research paints a vivid and realistic portrait of Victorian society, very Dickensian, highlighting the chasm between the classes; the generally appalling treatment of labourers and women; the growing poverty affecting the common people. And all this is essential to the romance in HIS CONVENIENT HIGHLAND WEDDING, because it is what eventually brings Flora and Lachlan closer. I also loved the inclusion of a legendary composer because of the stunning historical accuracy of the fact, and because he is one of my favourite artists. It's easy to understand why Lachlan wants to conceal his past; it is a huge secret, but I had no doubt that Flora would accept it with grace.
  
  HIS CONVENIENT HIGHLAND WEDDING is supremely compelling, intense, powerful, and slightly unsettling because of how well every feeling is conveyed. This richly textured novel offers not only a wonderful romance - and a hard-earned happily ever after - but also a world so convincing and well drawn, that Ms. Preston could build a whole series based on her extraordinary characters and their tribulations. Now, I can hardly wait to go back in time, and learn more about The Lochmore Legacy, and the brooch. What a fabulous start to what promises to be a very exciting series!

• This is book 1 of the Lochmore Legacy and I'm hooked already!! What a splendid job Janice Preston did with this start of the series. So many emotions went through me while I was reading, my heart really went out to Flora and Lachlan!
  
  Lady Flora McCrieff is forced to marry a stranger (she meets Lachlan at the altar!) because her family needs money and after a year of being ostracized by her family for creating a scandal by refusing to marry a lecherous duke, her father has had enough and forces this marriage on her.
  
  Lachlan McNeill, a business man, feels he needs a wife with a title so that he can be part of the ton and have rich men do business with him and his whiskey distillery. Unfortunately, he didn't know that Flora was not welcome and was being ignored by the ton.
  
  Lachlan has some secrets that he's keeping from Flora and many misunderstandings occur between them, leaving Flora hurt and exasperated that she can't seem to get through to him. • A friend asked me why he found sex with his wife "routine". He said he loved his wife and having sex with her still felt good, but he didn't feel "turned on". Instead, he found himself fantasizing about sex with other women. This book answers that question completely and helps one explore the contradictions and congruity of love and sexuality.
• Got to this book late and am I glad for it. When it came out I was newly remarried and didn't need and wouldn't have heard the message. But seven years into a mid-life marriage I needed tips on answering Ester Perel's Big Question (from her excellent TED Talk) Can you want what you already have? Her answer seemed to be as I read Sure you can. But it's work. And you better understand what's going on first.
  
  Add to this that my whole arousal system of mind, body, soul and sex is older, as I'm in my mid 60s. Love what she said when asked how many times she'd been married "Four. To the same man." This woman and mom and wife and therapist and speaker of 6 languages not only reinvented herself to stay hot for her man but to stay interesting for her two teen children living with mom/dad as a foursome. Yes, sex as a family value. From Belgium and Israel, her husband and two kids live or lived together when she wrote this from their flat in NYC. It's one thing to write how to stay hot for each other while married; it's another to pull it off and then even be able to communicate the complex system that makes it possible.
  
  I gave one to a peer guy friend and one to my son. It's that good and helpful. They say when the student is ready the teacher will appear. Don't read this book too soon. Or too late either. But buy three copies and get ready. I say.

• While I do recognize that Esther Perel is a famous therapist, the author backs up her hypothesis with her patients' experiences and most of them are completely out of the ordinary. I will cite one single example of the many this book has. Certain men have difficulty expressing their interest and love to women (what a surprise), and this guy could not maintain relationships because of this until he found a japanese (or chinese woman). They fell in love and it worked out so well precisely because they could not talk. He did not speak japanese, the woman did no speak English in the beginning, so they were forced to show how much they loved each other without talking. While this is a very romantic story, honestly, how often is a regular person going to encounter a situation like this? What is the point in giving these kind of examples when most of the people are not going to experience something like that? When reading this book I felt as if I were reading advice from Cosmopolitan. Do not waste your money or time reading this book. It is not worth it.
• Read it. If you can't read it, read the last chapter or two. However, I believe everyone who cares about their relationship or their own health will find themselves in a few of the many examples. The overall message of the duality or tension of the long term relationship and the distance needed for eroticism seems so obvious after having read this. There are many brilliant observations in this book, but I would also recommend the many lectures that the author has given which appear on YouTube, including her TED talks. I listened to a few before reading the book and a few after reading the book. It's funny how they made so much more sense after reading the book.
• Anyone who desires or is in a long-term relationship should read this. This book had me hooked, I whizzed through it in about 2 days. Hugely enlightening and puts words to something I've always noticed but could never quite put my finger on. The gist is that love demands closeness, but erotic desire needs space to thrive. For modern American couples, who often have their lives so intertwined, this can lead to problems. Perel explores this seeming contradiction and sheds light on how modern couples can become aware of this and mediate it. This book is packed with wisdom. Enlightening read!
• If a book could save your marriage, this would be it! It has excellent advice about how to think about your intimate partnerships that will actually lead to real changes in the relationships. My sisters and I have all read this book as part of our family book club and can report much better marriages because of Esther Perel's advice. Nothing is a quick fix, but one step in a new direction can take you to new places. I recommend this book to everyone who wants a better intimate relationship--especially if you are willing to do the hard work of looking at your own actions and making small changes to be a better partner.
• I think there is tremendous value in Perelman's insight that intimacy--marked by safety, closeness, and familiarity--and desire--marked by space, mystery, and risk-taking--are two distinct things. They not necessarily be opposed for many of us (thank God), but they are not the same, and need to be cultivated differently if we want to have a long term relationship marked by both loving security and erotic passion.

• I liked the sample, the rest... I got annoyed by the characters having to *sometimes* call out their skills to use them, the vacillating between juvenile and adult, and the unexplained skill in tactics that the MC had. But worse was the verb errors and editing hiccups. Overall, it’s a fun story. Worth a follow, just don’t expect a lot.
• The book was a fine read but editing needed a lot of work. Wrong uses of words took me out of the story as I tried to figure out what was trying to be said. However, saying that I still look forward to the next book.

• Peppered with some cliches and more or less obtuse references to certain other works, I found the humor quite good and the world-building was awesome.
  
  Like most other heroes, Lugor is able to take his disadvantages and make them work for him in the long run, especially when he is underestimated. I look forward to seeing his future character development.
• I normally don't see how something got made vs it just is. The device,armour,weapons development added to the background and pulled me into the story more. Main characters background added into the total effect. I am looking forward to the next in the series.
• I liked the story and did have a hard time putting it down. Only complaint is the formatting, grammar errors and typos that seemed to be scattered throughout. Easily fixed with some good editing/beta readers.
• This story is a great addition to the genre. It’s an amazing read and a strong start from a new author. I am looking forward to more!
• Emerging talents against prejudiced opponents, half orc champion with good friends. Develops blacksmithing and mining skills. Unique fantasy training method, dance to improve footwork. Real life, some athletes study ballet similar goals.

• As a psychotherapist I needed a light weight schedule book planner with pleanty of room for notes and reminders. I liked this planner as it is uplifting and the cover is beautiful.
• I love this planner. It makes me think about me and plan "me" in the month. I recommend this planner for anyone who has a busy schedule and need a little help planning your day and month. I loved it so much I purchase two of these ( one for me one for my daughter) and the one with stars for a friend. Get planner for the price.
